If you have arrived here I guess you have
a link or URL that when pasted into SVCR,
will not download, that is no information
is captured. If SVCR does capture information,
but then the local file will not play correctly,
then that is another problem, see Known Problems.
Before proceeding any further, check that
the link plays in the appropriate player,
realplayer or windows media player. If it
will not play, then SVCR will not capture
it. If it does not play the link is probably
dead at that particular time or the stream
server is too busy to handle your request.
IF YOUR STREAM IS PASSWORD PROTECTED, SVCR WILL NOT CAPTURE IT. This capability was not completed
at the time Streambox ceased development
of the software.
Also check that you are able to get SVCR
to work with other streams. Try pnm://usa.wrn.org/08002.ra
as suggested in Capturing A Stream or try http://home-1.worldonline.nl/~staak/africa-toto.wma
to check out capturing a Windws Media stream. If these do not work then there is something
wrong with your SVCR set up. Double check
your proxy settings if you are using a proxy
server. Check that SVCR is allowed to work
through your firewall if you are using one.
If your link ends in .ram, .smi or .smil,
or .asx you may not have the direct URL and
SVCR is having problems finding it. Go back
to Finding URLs and read the sections on Redirector or Metafiles and SMIL Files. You may also need to use a Packet Sniffer to find your URL.
Also double check that you have selected
T1/LAN connection speed and that you have selected a large timeout
value, say 200 seconds, in the Time Tab Note: you can access these settings from
the tabs in the New Item window.
OK, you have done all that and the link will
still not download.
The first thing to do is try a different
capture protocol. When you see the New Item
window after pasting the link, click in the
Protocol drop down menu - it will say Auto
by default. This will display a list of stream
protocols:

For RealMedia streams first try the RTSP Protocol by selecting it from the menu and clicking OK. If that doesn't work, try the other real protocols - PNM[TCP], PNM[HTTP], only HTTP as PNM[HTTP].
If all this does not fix the problem then
it is time to ask the experts at the Streaming Media Recording Forum. When you do post a question include information
on the link, the web page it came from, verify
that the link plays, summarize what SVCR
does when you try and capture the stream
(you can copy the log file in the right window
pane of SVCR), state what operating system
you use and if you are using a proxy server
or firewall. The more information you can
provide, the better the chance you have of
getting an answer.
There are now some real streams that SVCR
will not capture. For these you might try
Offline Explorer Pro from MetaProducts.
Again if you have checked everything as described
above, try selecting the different MMS protocols,
MMS[TCP], MMS[HTTP], only HTTP as MMS[HTTP],
to see if these protocols are successful.
If not, try using SVCR Beta 3.0. This version,
though less stable than Beta 3.1, seems to
handle mms streams better than Beta 3.1 in
some cases.
If you still cannot capture the stream then
you have some other options for Windows Media
streams:
ASFRecorder and ASFRecorder modified by Yaan2 HiDownload SDP from the SDP Team WMRecorder buy alexur HiNet Recorder from Hoonet Offline Explorer from MetaProducts |
